How to Add an AI Chatbot to Your Wix Website
A simple guide to adding the Factfu AI chatbot to any Wix site. No app install required — just paste a script tag in your site settings and you're live.
Why add a chatbot to your Wix site?
You built a beautiful Wix site. You picked the perfect template, tweaked the colors, uploaded your best photos. But when a visitor has a question at midnight — say, "Do you offer gift wrapping?" or "What's the difference between your Basic and Premium package?" — your site just... stares back at them.
Contact forms are great, but they're not conversations. And "We'll get back to you within 24 hours" isn't the answer anyone wants to hear when they're ready to buy right now.
An AI chatbot reads your actual site content and answers questions in real time. It's like having a knowledgeable team member available around the clock — except this one doesn't need coffee breaks.
What you'll need
- A Wix website (any plan — free works too)
- A free Factfu account
- About 3 minutes
That's it. No coding, no Wix app marketplace — just a quick copy-paste.
Step 1: Set up Factfu
- Go to factfu.com/signup and create a free account
- Click Create Bot and give it a name
- Add your content:
- Website URL — enter your Wix site address and Factfu will crawl your pages
- Text/FAQ — paste in any FAQs or info you want the bot to know
- Documents — upload PDFs, menus, or other materials
Pro tip: Feed it your "About" page, services page, and any FAQ content. That covers most questions people ask.
Step 2: Get your widget code
- In the Factfu dashboard, go to Settings → Widget
- Copy the embed code — it looks something like this:
<script src="https://factfu.com/v0/widget.loader.js"
data-widget-key="pk_your_key_here"
defer>
</script>
Keep this code handy. You'll paste it into Wix in the next step.
Step 3: Add the code to Wix
There are two ways to do this depending on your Wix setup:
Option A: Site-wide (recommended)
This adds the chatbot to every page of your site:
- In your Wix dashboard, go to Settings (the gear icon in the left sidebar)
- Click Custom Code (under "Advanced")
- Click + Add Custom Code
- Paste the Factfu embed code from Step 2
- Name it "Factfu Chatbot" (just for your reference)
- Under Add Code to Pages, select All pages
- Under Place Code in, select Body - end
- Click Apply
Option B: Specific pages only
If you want the chatbot on specific pages:
- Open the Wix Editor for the page you want
- Click Add (+) → Embed Code → Custom Code
- Paste the Factfu embed code
- Position the element anywhere (it won't affect the visible layout — the chat widget floats in the corner automatically)
- Repeat for any other pages you want
Using Wix Studio?
If you're on Wix Studio (the newer editor):
- Go to Site Settings → Custom Code
- Click Add Custom Code at the top right
- Paste the embed code
- Set placement to Body - end and scope to All pages
- Save
Step 4: Publish and test
Hit Publish on your Wix site. Visit your live site (not the editor preview) and you should see the chat bubble in the bottom-right corner.
Click it. Ask a question. Watch it pull the answer from your content.
That moment when it actually gets the answer right? Never gets old.
Customizing the look
The chatbot's appearance is controlled from the Factfu dashboard, not Wix. To match your site's style:
- Go to your Factfu dashboard
- Navigate to Bots → [Your Bot] → Customize
- Set your brand colors (if your Wix site uses a blue theme, make the widget blue)
- Upload an avatar — your logo works well
- Set a welcome message: "Hi! How can I help you today?" or whatever fits your brand
- Add quick reply buttons for common questions
Changes apply instantly — no need to update anything in Wix.
Troubleshooting
Widget doesn't appear after publishing:
- Make sure you published your site after adding the code
- Check that the custom code is set to load on Body - end
- Try viewing your published site in an incognito window (Wix caching can be aggressive)
- Verify the widget key in your embed code matches the one in your Factfu dashboard
"Custom Code" option isn't showing:
- Custom code is available on Wix Premium plans. If you're on the free plan, you'll need to upgrade to use custom code injection
- On Wix Studio, the option might be under a different menu — check Site Settings → Custom Code
The widget appears but doesn't know my content:
- Make sure you've added content sources in your Factfu dashboard
- If you added your Wix URL as a source, wait a few minutes for the crawl to complete
- Check the source status in your dashboard — it should show "Ready"
Widget covers an important element on mobile:
- The chat bubble position can be adjusted in Bots → Customize in the Factfu dashboard
Performance impact
The widget script is ~30 KB gzipped and loads asynchronously with defer. It won't slow down your Wix site or affect your SEO scores. The script loads after your page content, so visitors see your site first.

Wrapping up
Adding a chatbot to Wix takes about three minutes — most of which is waiting for Wix to load its editor (we've all been there).
Paste one script tag, publish your site, and your visitors get instant answers to their questions. Your Wix site goes from a digital brochure to an actual conversation — and that's usually the difference between a visitor and a customer.
